Bread and circuses, and youth ministry

One glaring way the church contributes to a bread and circuses mentality in the culture is through its approach to youth ministry. What is the typical appeal that most youth ministries use to attract young people? Food and fun. No self respecting youth ministry these days would throw an event without plenty of pizza and zany amusements. These are essentials. Is it any wonder that even Christians grow up as addicted to bread and circuses as the world?
